To the north-east of Kumasi, these are the last material remains of the great Asante civilization, which reached its high point in the 18th century. Since the dwellings are made of earth, wood and straw, they are vulnerable to the onslaught of time and weather.
Insight I
These ten buildings are the last remaining structures of the Asante Empire in the world.

Other buildings were destroyed during the onslaught of the Anglo-Ashanti Wars.
Insight III
These earth and thatched (straw) buildings feature a distinctive style surrounding courtyards.
The walls are decorated with Adinkra symbols in bas-relief, featuring arabesque and other ornamental motifs that epitomize Asante traditional culture and reverence for deities.
