Privacy Policy
Last Updated: March 2026
Welcome to HeritageDict. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website. As an indie project, we believe in radical transparency and only collect what is absolutely necessary to make the site function.
1. Information We Collect
a. Authentication Data (Google OAuth): If you choose to log in, we use Google OAuth strictly for identity verification. We only receive your basic public profile information (such as your email address and name). We do not have access to your Google passwords, nor do we request access to your Google Drive, Calendar, or any other personal Google services.
b. Usage Data: To improve our dictionary, we anonymously log interactions with the site, such as which historical keywords are clicked. This helps us understand what topics are most interesting to our readers.
c. User-Submitted Content: If you submit an "Insight" or knowledge point, we store the content you provide along with your user ID.
2. How We Use Cookies
We use "Cookies" in a very strict and limited manner. Specifically, we use secure, HttpOnly cookies to store JSON Web Tokens (JWTs). This is a technical necessity to keep you logged in securely while you browse the site and save your favorite heritages. We do not use third-party tracking cookies for targeted advertising.
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third parties. Your data is stored securely on our backend servers and is only used to provide the HeritageDict service.
4. Your Rights
You have the right to request the deletion of your account and all associated data (such as your saved favorites and submitted insights) at any time by contacting us.
